Default Pve Monk

Hey guys. I just recently came back to GW after a two year break. My build seems to be a little irrelevant now. I've been searching through the forums for a decent pve build (either a prot or healing one), but havent found one thats up to date. Currently using

1.Prot Spirit
2.RoF
3.Healing Breeze
4.Aegis
5.Mend Condition
6.Guardian
7.Dwayna's kiss
8.Resurrect

I know that prot spirit, and guardian are pretty good still. However, i have no idea what elite skills are good, and how to base a build around them. I've been trying to hero hench my way through factions, and i can't seem to keep everyone alive (little rusty)
Any help would be great!
thanks

It's not too bad.

Replace Ressurect for Rebirth or Ressurection Chant
Take out Healing Breeze and Aegis
You seem to be protting so I'd go Zealous Benidicition for an elite
Last one can be whatever, maybe take out mend condition and put in Draw condition + Mending touch? Up to you

I'm a WoHer, myself.

Also, er, re 8. - if you're going to bring a Resurrect in the first place, it might as well be Rebirth. If you bring the Rez in the first place.

I wouldn't recommend bringing rebirth.
If you want something that will teleport a resurrected party member to you, i'd suggest bringing Unyielding Aura.

If you'd rather bring a different elite, like ZB, I'd say just stick to res chant.

ps; This is all just personal preference.
I don't like Rebirth because of the energy loss.
But obviously some people do.

Just my opinion

WHAT? Why would you remove such a powerful partywide prot from your arsenal? Aegis mitigates a massive amount of pressure and is probably the most energy efficient prot in existence for general pve.

To the OP, that build is not at all bad, though there are a few changes I would make. I would personally drop the res altogether, using it in battle on a monk is a bad idea, though rebirth can be convenient for picking up after a near wipe. As others have mentioned, WoH is probably one of the best general purpose elites out there, though UA, HB, and ZB are all very viable. RoJ also if you want to fulfill more of a support role.

Healbreeze is somewhat energy inefficient and if used as one of your only redbar skills your target will probably die a few seconds into it. I would suggest WoH, patient spirit, and maybe sig of rejuv for redbar skills, though dwayna's isn't bad either. Guardian and prot spirit are both nice if you watch the field as opposed to bars.

Unyielding Aura is an elite, and you may want something else for a slot. Usually I swop to low energy set before Rebirthing.

I think it's a pro-and-con thing, really. Rezchant's half range is not something I'm comfortable with - I'd rather chuck it on, say, Gwen, who can cast it midbattle with FC. As a monk, if I'm going to take a rez, it's going to be the kind of stuff you use for 'last one standing' scenarios.

I see that your build consists of Prophecies and Core skills only. Since you have stated you came back after a 2 year pause, I'm inclined to think your monk is still somewhere in Prophecies and has not reached the Crystal desert.

IMHO, capturing Word of Healing is your number one priority. Get rid of Healing Breeze right after you've capped WoH. As far as resurrection is concerned, I prefer Rebirth since my job is keeping people alive. Not rezzing them mid-battle.

You should consider adding some energy management to your build too. I remember finishing Prophecies with /me secondary with Inspired Hex and Channeling. Going /e and taking Glyph of Lesser Energy is a good choice for casting PS and Aegis. When adding one or more energy management skills, I'd drop res and/or Guardian.

One thing the build lacks is hex removal. You could go with Holy Veil or even Remove Hex. Drop Guardian or res for one of these.

Your next elite should be Restore Condition.

Ressurect < Rebirth
Elite- Either Zealos Benediction or Word of Healing.
That's all there's to it. Good luck! Enjoy gaming,

Good monk elites for pve include [word of healing][restore condition][peace and harmony][unyielding aura][aura of faith][zealous benediction]. I would personally try to use zb as it is linked to protection prayers and not every area has conditions to fuel rc.
As for a bar i would consider something like
[zealous benediction][guardian][protective spirit][aegis][reversal of fortune][dismiss condition][glyph of lesser energy] and either [holy veil] or [remove hex]

Great build. I would recommend using [Seed of Life] though

Patient Spirit is a nice heal but I really dislike the 2 sec wait. Dwayna's Kiss is my heal of choice. Bonus heal if target is enchanted or hexed, very often both, and it can't get shattered like Patient. Not to mention the icon. <3

Your build is good although Guardian seems a bit redundant because of Aegis. It could also use some energy management in the form of [GoLE]. The glyph enables you to cast PS:1 and Aegis before a fight leaving you with your energy untouched for PS:2 and PS:3. Yes, I like to spam PS all over the place. Love that skill. <3

My favorite build:

[Word of [email protected]][Dwayna's [email protected]][Patient [email protected]][Dismiss [email protected]][Remove Hex][Protective [email protected]][Healing [email protected]][empty]

For the empty slot your choice between [[email protected]] and[Resurrection [email protected]]
Healing:12
Protection:9
Divine:9

Hope this helps you a bit

Actually, I like Patient Spirit because of the 2 sec wait, because then you can cast it beforehand and time a WoH off it. Dwayna's Kiss is <3 too though, but it's target other ally unlike Patient.

I find guardian insanely nice for general PvE, and I usually run an aegis chain also. There's always occasions when you'll be taking big melee pressure while aegis isn't up.

If you like to watch red bars then yeah, it's horribly inefficient, but once you learn to actually watch the field you can prevent literally hundreds of damage per cast of this skill. Especially useful if you like to pug. Most pugs don't know what kiting is.

I am also of the mind that hex removal is only useful in certain places in pve. Often you will find that a particular mob contains half a dozen of the same critters loaded with the same hexes. Since the AI is so godly at hexing then they will often reapply the hex you just removed virtually instantly. (Wind Riders for example. God I hate those things) In other situations where powerful hexes aren't so predominant you can usually get away with no removals and just live with any hex effects. In this case if I bother with hex removal I go with cure hex and use it basically as a redbar skill with the bonus that it removes a hex. Holy veil should probably stay in pvp, having no major advantage over remove or cure hex in probably 95% of pve.

Other areas do require some relatively solid hex removal.

As a side note, I find that throwing cry of frustration on a couple of midline heroes works amazingly against hex heavy foes, far better than removing the hexes afterward. (Like those Riders I mentioned.)

Wind Riders make my Warrior insanely frustrated with the aforementioned godly-AI-chain-hexing. [[Soothing Images] FTL.

My general WoH build is something like this:

[Word of Healing][Patient Spirit][GoLE][Aegis][Prot Spirit][Cure Hex][Dismiss Condition][empty]

Utility Slot swaps out:

[Guardian] / [RoF] / [Shield of Absorption] / Rez for PuGs, otherwise they bitch too much / PvE only skills for laughs and abuse

That's pretty much the same bar I run, although I drop Patient and (ofcourse) take Kiss.

Why do people mainly use staffs? Couldnt i use a Wolfs Favor, and Deldrimor protection scepter instead?
